_ The National Anthem by The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters."

After Obama gives inaugural address, he will escort outgoing President George W. Bush to a departure ceremony before attending a luncheon in the Capitol's Statuary Hall.

The 56th Inaugural Parade will then make its way down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House.

Later that day, the Presidential Inaugural Committee will host 10 official inaugural balls:

Off Topic Thursday: Why burning an Effigy of Senator Obama on a Christian Campus Really Mean

NEWBERG, Ore. - Students and school leaders at Georgia Fox University, a small Christian university outside Portland expressed outrage Wednesday at the discovery of a life-size cardboard effigy of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama hanging from a tree on campus...Taped to the cardboard cutout of Obama was a sign that read "Act Six reject." Act Six is a scholarship program geared toward increasing the number of minority and low-income students at several Christian colleges, mostly in the Northwest. Source: Associated Press

I expected to hear similar stories like these as we draw closer to the U.S. Presidential elections. As a Christian, however, I am livid that this debasement would come from one of our universities. But as an alumnae of a Presbyterian private college I remember clearly the racism I experienced in the dorm room and in the class room. But that was thirteen years ago. I'm livid, y'all.

I have a daughter, who is African-American, Latina and Christian. And I must admit if my child was at that college I might bust Hell wide open. Because that's some bad home training going on over there. There's some parents my age and a little older who needs a purging.

This racism in religious institutions, residing in our bodies is a demon. It makes no sense why a child of the Most High would even conceive of creating a picture of a person, cutting it out, then hanging it from a tree--a historical sting, a reminder of American lynchings, a state of accepting murder as something Okay--accept they are possessed with a spirit that is deceiving their souls.

Or... they are dead.

"Their throats are an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of the asps is under their lips; whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness...There is no fear of God before their eyes. " (James 1:13-18.)

Let's pray for our children and little sisters and brothers. Because Christ came down here so that we may live. These children ain't living if their mind is set on this kind of work.

Before she was running against him, Sarah Palin—the governor of Alaska and now the Republican candidate for Vice-President of the United States—thought it was pretty neat that Barack Obama was edging ahead of John McCain in her usually solidly red state. After all, she said, Obama’s campaign was using the same sort of language that she had in her gubernatorial race.

“The theme of our campaign was ‘new energy,’ ” she said recently. “It was no more status quo, no more politics as usual, it was all about change. So then to see that Obama—literally, part of his campaign uses those themes, even, new energy, change, all that, I think, O.K., well, we were a little bit ahead on that.” She also noted, “Something’s kind of changing here in Alaska, too, for being such a red state on the Presidential level. Obama’s doing just fine in polls up here, which is kind of wigging people out, because they’re saying, ‘This hasn’t happened for decades that in polls the D’ ”—the Democratic candidate—“ ‘is doing just fine.’ To me, that’s indicative, too. It’s the no-more-status-quo, it’s change.”

LifeWay Christian cuts 100 jobs

OT: Roswell Beacon & Obama Crosshair

I'm a bit rich tonight. I am a GRITS. Georgia reared in the south, but I'm tired now, especially when it comes to Senator Obama and race.

This newspaper cover of the Roswell Beacon is ridiculous. Roswell, which is an affluent town in North Atlanta don't see why this cover choice was inappropriate. I once worked in that town and left after the bombing of the abortion clinic during the summer olympics. That was over ten years ago...

We knew we were on the provocative edge," Altork said. "But it's a very fair piece, a smart piece."- AJC

And then this quip from Huckabee...

"That was Barack Obama," Huckabee said. "He just tripped off a chair. He's getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he — he dove for the floor."

Can you believe this? I am so concerned with about my daughter's future. I don't know how to protect her from a world that is scary to me...

Why Fiction Matters: Obama Edwardes

It's the moral shame of America that 37 million people wake up in poverty every day," Edwards also said.

Being Black, Living Christian: Clearly Obama

Two article regarding Bishop Jeremiah Wright and Obama's response to the controversy cause me pause.

Most importantly, Rev. Wright preached the gospel of Jesus, a gospel on which I base my life. In other words, he has never been my political advisor; he's been my pastor. -Senator Obama.

I appreciated his response, but as I read comments and have listened to my white Sunday School friends(who are all Republican mind you), I'm sad to say that without Jesus I don't think black people will ever be treated equal anywhere, especially in an American church. Thank God for Christ.

He doesn't judge us, require us to disavow our heritage, ask us to leave the black church, to act as if the way we have been treated daily doesn't matter, nor does he chide us for venting about it sometime. He listens, he corrects, he comforts.

I need comfort this morning, because as a black progressive there are some issues I want answer to instead of more nice nasty politicking. I want to talk about:

1. Why so many of my cousins(mainly Marines) are still in Afghanistan, when clearly we aren't trying to find Bin Laden, when clearly when they return they can't get a job, because of their skin color?
2. Clayton County school system in Atlanta, and whether there troubles is another way to disenfranchise urban schools?
3. Christian publishing and why we don't have an African-American imprint yet, clearly this genre makes money, so what's the problem?
4. Why after seven years did Legs Mason(formerly Smith Barney) return my Coverdell account holdings for my daughter's college fund? Middle class people can't save for college anymore?
5. Why is Grady Hospital becoming privatized?
6. Why is everything American made in China?
7. And why do eggs, gas and milk cost so dadgum much?
8. Why aren't the media(or Clinton pr people) not jumping on the McCain/John Hagee issue? Unless they, too believe that God brought Hurricane Katrina to New Orleans, because the town was mostly black--I mean mostly bad?
9. Why are so many people undergoing foreclosure and living in campgrounds?
   
10. And here can I get that teacake? I love teacakes!!
