1.Patrick Swayze died on Twitter but Vanity Fair says no one puts Patrick in the Coroner. LOL
Source Link: http://r.reuters.com/kas75c

quick question: On Social Media Club today we talked about the evolution of social media. The Good and the Bad. One of the bad or troublesome issues with Social Media is the way it emblazens the rumor mill. For instance, today on Twitter someone leaked a death announcement of patrick swayze. But the actor hadn't passed. The rumor grew like wildfire. His publicist had to respond. Should artists and businesses include twitter in their marketing tool under crisis management?

2. Is Michael Steele the GOP's Uncle Tom or the definition of the New Republican?

Source Link: http://tinyurl.com/ocaydc

now that we have an African American President it seems too coincidental that the head of the GOP is Michael Steele, an African American man. Since Steele stepped into the role he has been scrutinized for trying to hard to bring soul to the GOP. But I wonder why does the GOP think they need the soul of the African American culture. Is it to embrace cultural diversity or take AA Progressive votes from the Democratic Party? Is this a smart move? Or dumb as dirt?

3. Is America ready for a Gay Idol?
Source link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbMIA6UaAu8
Really? LOL We have plenty. Right? Or should we ask Miss California for her approval first? LOL. How important is the Christian vote? And what's wrong if Christians think Adam is the best? Will Christians hide in the closet about their voting? But most importantly can't Adam by Christian, too? Is he automatically opted out?

4. Is the emergence of Talk & News Show a good thing for the publishing industry?
Source link: http://www.fromcovertocovershow.com/
Anderson Cooper's 360, The Daily Show, Bill Mahr all these shows have changed the way we take in news content. The Talk Show and the News have merged where journalism and opinion meet. Blogs like Huffington Post and Christian Fiction Blog share news with sprinkles of opinion. Now FM radio has a literary news talk show that wants to add to the publishing industry watercooler. Tonight we are pleased to chop it up with Reshonda Tate Billingsley and Pat Tucker hosts of From Cover to Cover

questions:
  • what's this business about us being able to see you guys?
  • the news magazine format

5. Who is Marina Crushing On?
Marina has a crush on one of our past bro-hosts. We're having a contest and giveaway to the person who tells us who the crush is first. :)

When God Does a New Thing for Your Writing Life

Have you been nursing your manuscript all year? Have you decided to wait until the economy picks up before your submit your WIP to a publisher? Or are you spending more time blogging and posting book reviews, because you get a chance to communicate with those in Christian publishing before you finally get your book published? Or --real talk here-- or are you comfortable with not changing the way you write, they way you act, the measure of your faith?

In Isaiah God sent Isaiah to speak to the tribe of Judah. He wanted them to know that their way of life and where they lived was about to change for their better. But they refused the move. They had grown comfortable living in a secular world. They had learned how to adapt. They had learned how to interpret the coolest slang, sing with the hottest melody, dress in the latest fashion, and disquise God's word to survive. They had become accepted, more than survived...they lived better. Truth: they had grown comfortable with placing their hope in the wrong place and the wrong God - mediocrity, lukewarm faith, excuseville. They didn't want to do anything new.

They had become me.

Midweek Reality Post: Do You Know the Rules of Getting Published?

lollipop by Flóra

Today Sandra Bishop posted a nice allegory on Literary Agent Chip McGregor's Blog about how veteran writers should lend a hand to newbie writers, how they should prepare writers who are seeking publication by sharing the knowledge they know, and how writers should ask before they pitch. She states...

Based on the queries and submissions we receive, I'm sad to say there is a staggering amount of evidence that tons of folks don't bother figuring out the rules of the writing road. Don't think to read between the signs along the way and think about what they're getting into. They see the promise of treasure and plunge ahead, ignoring guidelines, books on craft, the market.

Here is my response below:

Great allegory

There are many great author friends in publishing who share everything about the process. Some of my write-or-die chicks have built brilliant stories, had a laundry list of endorsements from other authors, paid for copy editing, attended workshops, were rejected multiple times, and believe that this work is a part of the process, so we write again and start all over until some great agent or editor picks us up.

On the other hand, I have witnessed writers whose manuscripts had heavy grammatical errors, poor plot construction, dry themes and yet became published. I've even had agents come to me to help their author client build a better marketable book to pitch, and those authors were published. Those writers--for whatever reason-- didn't need to know the list to get through.

And that's the rub for me and many other writers, who are doing what they do, yet know for a fact that "the list" applies to those who aren't friends with the List maker.

So I would also add that we writers should not just encourage and share, but also be a soft place to fall when good writers(and we know who a good writer is) need a measure of our faith to hold onto when they feel weak on this journey.

The last paragraph is what I want to discuss in more detail this week and today at noon EST on Media Candy for my Midweek E-lunch with you.

What is the List for getting a book published? Are their hidden items on that list? And if so, what are they and why are they hidden? Let's have a Real Talk discussion today. I encourage any agents, editors, writers, publishers to join in and if need be debate. I'm doing some spring cleaning today, cleaning out the past year's crap in my pr life. Let's Go.

You can logon to the chat at Noon EST at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/mediacandy or call in at (646) 649-1066
