What we've seen in these last weeks is that we're also up against forces that are not the fault of any one campaign but feed the habits that prevent us from being who we want to be as a nation.
It's a politics that uses religion as a wedge and patriotism as a bludgeon, a politics that tells us that we have to think, act, and even vote within the confines of the categories that supposedly define us, the assumption that young people are apathetic, the assumption that Republicans won't cross over, the assumption that the wealthy care nothing for the poor and that the poor don't vote, the assumption that African-Americans can't support the white candidate, whites can't support the African-American candidate, blacks and Latinos cannot come together.

Summize Dee

I am rewriting my book proposal. Since I lost everything last year I am rebuilding it by scratch, so I decided to Google myself, see what's in the blogosphere that I left behind. To my surprise I stumbled upon a nifty sight for reviewers.

This review aggregation site does what it says. It compiles reviews of products for you to look through. Right now many of them come from Amazon, typepad, and other blogs I can see bigger things happening here. It's fast. You can snatch reviews for music, movies, books, etc. Check out my review of Tia McCollor's Heart of Devotion.

The section I think is most interesting is the Trends section. You can see what books are getting the most talk and join in the conversation. As soon as I have time I can't wait to chime in there.

Have anyone used Summize? Are there other better review ajax like applications out there?

Weekend Chatter: Obama on Christianity Today

I'm writing a lot today, so I don't have much to time to blog. Here are a few things that came across my table you may want to check out and chatter about. You can leave your take in the comments back I would like to know what you think. I'll throw in my two cents on Monday. You can also twitter me. My id is deegospel.

Senator Obama is on Christian Today talking about his presidential campaign and debunking the myth that Democrats aren't evangelicals. (Thank you from a Christian Democrat.)

On his faith: "I am a devout Christian. I believe in the redemptive death
and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe that that faith gives me a path to
be cleansed of sin and have eternal life. But most importantly, I believe in the
example that Jesus set by feeding the hungry and healing the sick and always
prioritizing the least of these over the powerful."

Q: Now, you’re a pastor. You’ve been in ministry over ten years. Why didn’t you write a story that makes pastors look good? Why does Fallen seem to make the pastor the bad guy?

A: I’ve found that many evangelicals are in ugly situations with pastors who are literal bad guys. Everyone has seen the parade of scandals in the news—pastors in adultery, drug abuse, fraud, pedophilia, you name it. Believers in these situations usually have to penetrate layers of lies before they find out what their pastors have done. These discoveries are devastating, not just to individuals and congregations, but often to whole communities. In Fallen, I try to be honest about church life in America right now. I also try to show how believers who’ve had these experiences with their pastors can see their pain redeemed.
