IMAGE_495This weekend I fellowshipped with my Write-or-Die Chicks and added some more to the mix, along with the most posh bookclubs I’ve met this year. Honey, these ladies were dressed to kill at the gala banquet.

For those of you who attended the Book Marketing Boot Camp Session, in which I was a part of.  We had to cut our session short, because of a time crunch, so I offered three freebies to you:

10 Book Marketing Tips Every Author Should Consider Before the Book Hits the Shelf

Book Marketing Dee-Mystified Series Planning Workbook: 7 Components to Book Marketing and Social Media Design

The #1 Reason Why your Book Marketing Efforts Fail on Facebook? (expanded version that is not online)

You can email me via Facebook and I will send you all three. The first respondent gets a free one hour consulation from me. (A $100 value.)

Once again. Thanks so much for hanging out with me this weekend!

Sins of the Mother & Daddy’s Delight

I giggled when these two books arrived on my doorstep. The two titles sitting next to each other reads like a gospel stage play. However, there is nothing comical or fantastical about either book.

Victoria Christopher Murray’s Sins of the Mother(Touchstone)( was chosen as a top summer read for my Christian Fiction Online Magazine, because it novelized a common question we ask God. Why do bad things happen to good people? During this time in our country—BP Oil Spill, layoffs, authors losing contracts—Murray’s novel may give us another perspective on the subject. Hopefully we can encourage others once we’ve been enlightened.

Dr. Karia Bunting’s Daddy’s Delight(Moody) is a great summer Sunday school breather for women ministries. Chapter 2’s Three Times a Lady: How to Enjoy Being a Woman illuminated me. I’ve been struggling for the past three years, since I lost my second child, with restlessness. This chapter spoke to me of what I’ve been trying to become again(1 Peter 3:3-4.) It has helped me with the decision to some things go and reluctantly, but assuredly step away from some caustic friendships.

Check these books out this weekend. I’ll be seeing Victoria in Atlanta this weekend, as we attend the 2010 Faith and Fiction Retreat. Hit me up.

TPT: Melody Carlson As Young As We Feel

Happy Tuesday. Today are Trailer Park Tuesday feature is Melody Carlson’ s As Young As We Feel.

Before I talk about the book let me say I love this trailer. It is succinct, the graphics and the music fit the tone of this novel. And the length is short enough to get you interested in the book. More importantly the size of this video is small enough to email and share across your networks (something book trailer developers often forget about it.) Kudos David C. Cook Publishers again.

Now the story…

At a crossroads in their lives, four old friends—a New York lawyer, an empty nester, a frustrated artist, and an aging starlet—come together again in their old hometown. Read the first chapter at: http://www.scribd.com/doc/25445313/As..

Using Microsoft Note to Outline my Novel In a Snap

image

Today I began brainstorming Book 2 of my series* tonight.  Unlike my first book, whereby I had all the time in the world to build a book, I have a deadline July 15 to turn in an outline. So how do a newbie published author transition from hobbyist to professional writer? er um… how do you write under a deadline?

For me, all I need is One Note. Microsoft’s One Note.

Here I can house all the jots and doodles about my novel in one place. It’s like a corkboard without the cork and board just the white space. I love it.

If you squint you’ll see that i have my book sectioned by tabs, a synopsis section and marketing plan. i’ve dropped in some pics of the scene and the muse, Jason Momoa for my main character.  i can even drop in my soundtrack for the book in there. (yeah I use music to help me write these stories.) I can even drop in videos. I have a hilarious youtube of a wedding gown grab down that has helped me write the opening scene.

I plotted Part 1(the first 75 pages in a few hours.) Tomorrow I’ll roughly write the opening scene. Guess what you can pop in a Todo that syncs to Outlook inside this. Isn’t that cool.

image

I can even drop my whole scene in this section as a Microsoft Doc. Kewler!!

Now I have a question for you. How do you keep up with all your story building tools?

Weekend Read: Heading Home

Beautiful Beginnings and Happy Endings!

Renee Riva’s latest release, Heading Home, draws her readers into the heart of the Digulio family as A.J. discovers that one of the key elements of a lifelong relationship is a love that will anchor your heart and draw you toward home.

Angelina Digulio’s heart has been tenderly tied to Indian Island through a series of letters that Danny has written on behalf of her dog, Sailor, throughout her eight years in Italy. Although the initial reunion with Danny is sweet, at the ages of eighteen and twenty-two, it isn’t long before Danny and A.J. realize that the future of their hearts and the reality of their plans could very possibly take them in very different directions. While Danny explores the possibility of creating a series of summer camps for church groups and introducing a new Indian princess to the island, A.J. begins spending time with the nuns at Our Lady of the Lake in an attempt to fulfill a promise she made to God several years ago. What neither of them realize is that their dreams for the future are more entwined than they could ever believe possible.

Fans of Renee Riva’s Indian Island trilogy will be delighted to be reunited with the colorful cast of characters from the two previous books, Saving Sailor and Taking Tuscany. As Heading Home progresses, all three branches of the extended families collide—Southern, Italian and Greek!—to create a story that will linger tenderly in your heart for a very long time! There are many tense moments as Danny and A.J. sort through their feelings, and there are many holy moments as each of them come before God with their burdens and trust Him with their future. Hilarity also abounds in this story, especially when the Italian and Greek grandmothers come together!

Heading Home is a story about the very best of what it means to be family. This is a story about beautiful beginnings and happy endings! Fans of Renee Riva will add special memories to their reading collection with the final volume of the Indian Island Trilogy.

What people are saying about…..Heading Home

“Riva’s warm, often humorous, and delightful story of first love, loyalties, and complicated promises offers readers a mix of faith and fun wrapped in fiction.”

Gail Welborn, review in Seattle Christian Book Review Examiner

“Heading Home wins a place on my bookshelves that house only titles I plan to read again and again. The humor, the pathos, and the believability of the characters and the plot make Heading Home an absolute delight-enjoyable and unforgettable. Renee deserves high praise for a book that will touch lives and teach tolerance while adhering to strong Christian beliefs.”

Colleen L. Reece, author of 140+ “Books You Can Trust,” six million copies sold

“Quirky characters and infectious humor!”

                                                                                                                                                                RT Book Reviews

“Heading Home is the delicious unfolding of A.J.’s tale. Our favorite firecracker of a girl with the fake Southern accent is coming into her own as an adult. Whether A.J. is seeking after God on starlit night, arguing with her Italian American family on the phone, or drifting out on the lake with the cowboy of her drams, Riva takes us on a journey of hilarity, holiness, family fun, and true love. Heading Home made me feel like I came home.”

Susanna Foth Aughtmon, author of All I Need Is Jesus and a Good Pair of Jeans

“Renee Riva’s Heading Home is a touching, satisfying episode in the life of the irrepressible A.J. Degulio. Reader beware! Beginning this book near bedtime may result in daytime drowsiness!”

Sylvia Dorham, author and voice-over artist whose credits include Riva’s Saving Sailor

“A sweet tale of true love, quirky characters, and a girl named A.J. you can’t help but adore. Renee Riva is a gem of an author in Christian fiction. Everyone should have the chance to enjoy her wonderful stories, and Heading Home is a great addition. Viva la famiglia!

Today’s Friday Fun Read is Diana Falanga  P. S. I Hate It Here!

For every parent who’s ever received a letter from a homesick child or anybody who’s ever written their parents with crazy requests from their bunk, P.S. I Hate It Here: Kids’ Letters From Camp will delight with hilarious and heartwarming real-life letters.

This collection of real letters written by children ages eight to sixteen to their parents about their adventures at summer camp are laugh-out-loud funny and will have readers reminiscing about their own camp days.

More than 150 letters cover all the imaginable scenarios of sleep away camp, from acing the cabin lice inspection, to rowing in the “ricotta” race, to breaking the bad news about a retainer lost in the wilderness. These letters reveal that kids are wittier and more sophisticated than we might assume, and that the experience of being away from home for the first time creates hilarious and lasting memories.

I remember my summer camp letters home. I never felt open enough to tell what I really felt. I got this book, to encourage my daughter to believe she can tell me anything. She leaves for Girl Scout Camp in July.

Click here to learn more and purchase the book.
