Bloggers Unite: Human Trafficking & Why Christian Fiction Matters

OK. I'm blogging a lot today. This is a high traffic day and Bloggers Unite for Human Rights Day. Bloggers around the world are challenging each other to use our blogs to draw attention to injustices that affect our human rights. Here at Christian Fiction Blog I speak of Darfur often. Today I want to shed light on another issue close to my heart-human trafficking, particular women trafficking.

Approximately 27 million people have been sold into slavery in our present age. 80% of those slaves are women, shipped as cargo across the world and could be living in our neighborhoods.
  • Last month Former pro-wrestler Harrison "Hardbody" Norris Jr. was sentenced to life in prison for enslaving homeless women in Atlanta. Atlanta people!
  • Human trafficking prosecutions such as this one are a top priority of the
Department of Justice. In the last seven fiscal years, the Civil Rights
Division, in conjunction with the U.S. Attorneys' Offices, has increased by
nearly seven-fold the number of human trafficking cases filed in court as
compared to the previous seven fiscal years. In FY 2007, the Department
obtained a record number of convictions in human trafficking prosecutions.
  • Bloggers Unite
  • Other areas hit with Human Trafficking Challenges

Prince Caspian, Sequels & Plotting: Part 1

This weekend Prince Caspian releases and my daughter has been doing minor chores with hopes that I take her, but I'm not too sure. Prince Caspian, the movie is the sequel to the hit The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. The only sequesl I planned to see were Batman's Dark Knight(excited) and Indiana Jones(kicking & screaming thanks to BFF guilt) . But when it comes to sequels...enthusiasm...not so much.

Why? They rarely deliver. Even as an avid book reader I find that something is loss with the sequel. I have tons of sequels lining my review wall. There are tons of blockbuster sequels coming out this summer along with Prince Caspian. Some good, some not so good. PC has lukewarm reviews here, here and here.

But I'm concerned.

I have a few author friends who have written or are writing sequels to their novels. And although my manuscript is still unpublished I'm plotting the sequel to my series, as I complete self-editing the first novel.[I pitched a series, so...]

If I'm not a fan of sequels, then why am I writing one...two?

This week and through the month I will return to this discussion on plotting series, share my favorite sequels what worked and the ones I hated, and so of course what didn't work. Until then I would like to know from you:

Why do you write sequels(for writers)?

Why do you read them(for readers)?

Why Fiction Matters: Obama Edwardes

Senator John Edwards endorsed Democratic Presidential nominee, Barack Obama on Wednesday, May 14. Read more here...

"Brothers and sisters, we must come together..." he stated last night at a surprise appearance during an Obama rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

It's the moral shame of America that 37 million people wake up in poverty every day," Edwards also said.
