P.S. I Hate It Here! #funread

Daisy Selah

Today’s Friday Fun Read is Diana Falanga  P. S. I Hate It Here!

For every parent who’s ever received a letter from a homesick child or anybody who’s ever written their parents with crazy requests from their bunk, P.S. I Hate It Here: Kids’ Letters From Camp will delight with hilarious and heartwarming real-life letters.

This collection of real letters written by children ages eight to sixteen to their parents about their adventures at summer camp are laugh-out-loud funny and will have readers reminiscing about their own camp days.

More than 150 letters cover all the imaginable scenarios of sleep away camp, from acing the cabin lice inspection, to rowing in the “ricotta” race, to breaking the bad news about a retainer lost in the wilderness. These letters reveal that kids are wittier and more sophisticated than we might assume, and that the experience of being away from home for the first time creates hilarious and lasting memories.

I remember my summer camp letters home. I never felt open enough to tell what I really felt. I got this book, to encourage my daughter to believe she can tell me anything. She leaves for Girl Scout Camp in July.

Click here to learn more and purchase the book.

FridayFest: Neil Gaiman Can Speak for Me

NG_NLW_button_stacklogo

This week is National Library Week and I almost missed it. Sleep deprived, struggling to fix my manuscript caused me to forget one of my favorite times of the year—this.  Why? '

1. Well for one- Neil Gaiman is this year’s spokesperson.

2. Libraries are the only institutions dedicated to reading, housing great literature, and supporting authors.

If you’re a novice reader, visit your local public library to check out a book. If you’re an avid reader, start a reading group at your public library. And if you’re an author, well…write well enough to become a spokesperson for them. LOL. just kidding. Really. If you’re an author, do I have to tell you what to do? How ‘bout you meet me there?

Congrats to Dakota Aycox, the winner of the 2010

National Library Week Bookmark Contest

at my local (Newton County) Library. Isn’t it cute?

Check out your local libary to find out what celebrations are going on today and tomorrow.

Griggs is back with a sweet romance... fans will love this book, since it has the same romantic feel as her first novel.

Summary: Melissa Anderson moonlights on the weekends as an events planner, hoping to one day have her own business. She has a plan to get there and Christian dating rules to keep her from getting distracted. But when she meets minister Marcus Peeples she starts to rethink her rules.

Marcus has finally moved on after his marriage ended and found his match in Melissa -- but she doesn't date divorced men. (DAFINA, Jun., 304 pp., $15.00)

Revolve: Rockin’ The Road Premiers Tonight

ATLANTA, GA (October 15, 2008) – Gospel Music Channel (GMC) television network will take viewers on a unique, behind-the-scenes journey in its first-ever unscripted reality drama series called Revolve: Rockin’ The Road. The five-episode series -- set to premiere Friday night, October 17 -- is GMC’s first foray into dramatic reality programming as well as its first original series targeting teens.

Revolve: Rockin’ The Road follows four advance team members of The Revolve Tour, the popular new travelling tour for teen girls produced by North America’s largest women’s conference, Women of Faith.

The show will be seen through the eyes of four young professionals working with The Revolve Tour this summer: Chad Eastham, Jenna Lucado, Sean Kelly and Courtney Clark Cleveland. Crammed inside a tour bus and armed only with their faith, the four friends trek across America with an agenda to connect with teen girls and spark interest in The Revolve Tour: All Access that kicked off September 12, 2008.

Revolve: Rockin’ The Road will give viewers an all-access pass as the foursome travel to nine different Christian music festivals across the country. The series will capture their collective quest to maintain spiritual peace and discipline amidst logistical challenges, self goals, and inevitable relationship struggles. While some of the cast finds resolution to those struggles at the season’s end, others remain searching.

Christian music artists Natalie Grant, Hawk Nelson, Group 1 Crew, Krystal Meyers and Ayiesha Woods are featured in the series, performing at the festivals and connecting with the Revolve team. A preview of the new show can be seen at http://www.gospelmusicchannel.com/revolve.
