In accordance with new FTC guidelines regarding endorsements and testimonials for bloggers, I would like my readers to know that many of the books I review on my site are provided to me for free by the publisher or author of the book in exchange for an honest review. I am in no way compensated for any reviews on my site.
This weekend Prince Caspian releases and my daughter has been doing minor chores with hopes that I take her, but I'm not too sure. Prince Caspian, the movie is the sequel to the hit The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. The only sequesl I planned to see were Batman's Dark Knight(excited) and Indiana Jones(kicking & screaming thanks to BFF guilt) . But when it comes to sequels...enthusiasm...not so much.
Why? They rarely deliver. Even as an avid book reader I find that something is loss with the sequel. I have tons of sequels lining my review wall. There are tons of blockbuster sequels coming out this summer along with Prince Caspian. Some good, some not so good. PC has lukewarm reviews here, here and here.
But I'm concerned.
I have a few author friends who have written or are writing sequels to their novels. And although my manuscript is still unpublished I'm plotting the sequel to my series, as I complete self-editing the first novel.[I pitched a series, so...]
If I'm not a fan of sequels, then why am I writing one...two?
This week and through the month I will return to this discussion on plotting series, share my favorite sequels what worked and the ones I hated, and so of course what didn't work. Until then I would like to know from you:
Why do you write sequels(for writers)?
Why do you read them(for readers)?

I am a reader who enjoys reading sequels when the first book introduces characters that are engaging. So I read all the Mma Ramotswe books, and the trilogy by Ray Blackston, and read the first Yada Yada Prayer Group: The Novel and aim to read the next one.
