Thanks Melvin Vivas for providing this link to Steve Job's MacWorld Conference Expo speech for us cats that can't listen to his speech for watching the Alito confirmation hearings.

From Melvin'sMusings on Tech stuff, Java, Linux and Open Source Blog...

For those who can't view Steve Jobs' keynote through streaming video...Here's a summary of his speech...

From what I read I think iMovie is interesting, especially if you want to do like author, Deanne Gist did and create a trailer for your book.

appiWeb is interesting too. I don't have a Mac, so I will be reading more about Apple, as I am in the market for a laptop or powerbook.

I will come back to this later on how these features and other techy stuff can be useful to Christian writers. I use Outlook everyday and don't know how I could stay ontop of my magazine queries without it.

5 Ways to Effective Extra-Biblical Fiction Writing

 Scripture Reference: 2 Timothy 4:3-5
3. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
4. and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
5. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

From time to time I write a topic over at my blog called Why Fiction Matters. It discusses ways I've found where fiction helps us on a daily basis as Christians. One entry spoke on HBO's movie The Girl in the Cafe and how it interlocked the theme of  global poverty and romance together in such a way that the script couldn't have one without the other.  Another topic on Christian Gaming and how this new form of entertainment will meet the need of the gaming community without creating children who are numb to pornography and sin.

Usually I find my examples for this topic in  the news or from observing some form of fiction entertainment. But yesterday at McKendree UMC I witnessed it during a sermon...

Uh-oh.

New Year's Beckett Resolution

An excerpt from Dave Long's Faith*in*Fiction announcement...

I am pleased to announce that this story has been picked up for publication by The New Pantagruel. This is one of the premier online Christian art journals and I'm grateful to them for agreeing to partner with faith*in*fiction for this contest.

If you don't know T.S. Beckett, then you should. His prose evokes the Holy Spirit for me. So I'm glad his conversion story is getting great recognition.

After reading Dave's conversion story picks I still felt like I had a pretty strong piece. I'm thankful to al the emails that praised the story and was suprised that I wasn't listed. Although I think my story is strong, for me I'm glad it didn't get picked. There are many things about it that I'm not satisfied with. Therefore, I'm rewriting it and extending it into a longer piece.

My goal was to do what Beckett accomplished. My external plot overpowered my internal conflict. I couldn't find a suitable place to setup Bebe's questioning of God. After months away from the story and reading the other stories now I can see an opening for Bebe. Exodus might be the novel I'm searching inside myself to write. Who knows. I wrote two novels in two years and still feel I need to keep at it for a little while longer.

I uploaded my latest version of chapter one of Angel on the Back Pew. You can check that out. This year I'm writing two novels at a time-- a paranormal and a literary. And a short story a month. Gotta get the chops up for the next contest.

What are you writing this year?

Dee
