My Weekend Chatter Box Response: Christian Curse

Great responses regina and anon, and here is the rub.

As a Christian I believe in the Apostles Creed, and live by the Jesus Creed.

Therefore, as a Christian artist I believe that our job is to create works that edify the Body of Christ, illuminate the lost, and glorify God. My issue--as well as my Christian author friends--is how do you do all of this and create a piece of work that is authentic and glorious at the same time?

I am still researching and studying the Word for answers.

But what I have discovered so far is that Christian artists put themselves in two distinct camps. Whether you agree with them or not all believe that their works encourage Kingdom Building.

My purpose at Christian Fiction Blog is to supply both audiences of these two different camps a platform for their works to be exposed. Those types are:

1. Traditionally CBA, whereby their content, dialogue, theme and story encompasses a worldview that seeks to create a reading experience void of temptation for their readers: no profanity, sex, violence, theology questioning.

2. Edgy Christian/Inspirational ABA, whereby their content seeks to create a worldview that encompasses a believer who lives in the world, but not of the world. They do not write with the babe in Christ in mind, they write with the lost in mind. Their position is to bring an unbeliever to Christ by creating works that are illuminating, but comfortable and unpreachy, so that the seeker has a platform to wonder about the awesome glory of God.

Which artist does Christ prefer?

If you look at the diversity of the disciples one would think he would choose them both. After all Simon Peter was less than a saint.

And since I am the last person to judge what a Christian should do, I will leave the judgment up to Christ and the marketplace. If you don't want to support these artists, then don't, but please don't debase them. A church divided never prevails against the Wicked.

Thus, please do not assume that they will not have a place here at Christian Fiction Blog. Because if there is one person out there seeking to know Christ and they stumble upon my blog I want them to connect and stay a while. As they grow in spiritual maturity--like most of us--God will change their tastes. Let's be patient for our sisters and brothers.

And please be patient with me.

If you know of any gospel plays touring that you want to share with us, please pass them onto us.

Be blessed,
Dee

Can Christians Curse?

Today I received a question from a reader. The question: So if Tyler Perry's marriage counselor show is being advertised on Christian Fiction, can I assume there is no bad language in this show?

I answered the question here. but I thought I should extend this discussion to the CFB Mybloglog Crew, Christian Fiction Network, my MySpace Friends and readers here at CFB as our Weekend Chat.

Do you think a play, movie or book can be be Christian and contain profanity? You can respond anonymously, if you wish.

Macbook Air News Break

During his Macworld Expo keynote address on Tuesday morning, Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the MacBook Air Tuesday, a computer that the company billed as the world's thinnest notebook -- small enough to fit inside an interoffice mailing envelope. It's priced starting at $1,799.

Sporting a silvery finish, the MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display -- it saves power and provides "instant on" response from the moment you turn it on, according to Jobs. The device has a slightly wedge-shaped profile that runs from 1.2 inches down to 0.8 inches high. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches.
